... in the jacuzzi at the Travelodge hotel in San Diego. Good times for sure. Did you know that Canadians can buy their milk in a bag?! Mind blowing.
So I went to an Invisible Children event that was on-campus Monday night. I had always heard about Invisible Children but I never really understood what it was so I decided to attend the meeting/movie about it before gospel choir. And what I saw astounded me. Does anyone else know about the Rescue? Because if you don't (or if you do) I'd love to talk to ya about it. Maybe get some more history because I can't understand how one man can have so much power!
Here's a little something that I've been working on when I'm bored/have nothing to do. I did this during my free time last week... so that should tell you exactly how little free time I had. It was a crazy week fo shizzle dawg!
1. Bologna lunchables are AWESOME!
2. I hate, sorry, I greatly dislike hearing Allyse talk on the phone with Evan. My reasoning is simple... I don't like hearing verbal abuse, manipulation, or dumb girl whining. Call me crazy but it's not my favorite sound in the world. (I was a little angry when I wrote this)
3. Snacks are my weakness.
4. People who need to be constantly entertained are annoying.
5. I want to travel Europe before I'm "tied down" by life after college. But I'm really afraid that it won't happen.
6. Kickboxing class is fun! I like to pretend I'm actually hitting someone.
7. I thought I made a mistake a little over a year ago but now I don't think I did. Ya want to know the answer? It's the title of a very popular book/movie right now.
8. Face grab. That's what it's all about.
9. Nursing. Yay and nay.
10. Being intelligent automatically makes guys more good looking.
11. My notes for class are always in blue pen.
12. So... I have a boyfriend. His name is Ryan. Sorry I didn't tell you guys earlier but I didn't want to till it was "official".
13. Sometimes I think I'm getting carpal tunnel.
14. I've had a patient say something borderline inappropriate to me.
15. I've always wanted to dye my hair really blonde or red. Neither will probably happen.
16. My relatives have told me that I can live with them over a summer if I want to.
17. I get chills when I hear someone sing really well. During chapel, during gospel choir, during good musicals...
18. Gospel choir. PRAISING GOD. He is so good and mighty and worthy of our praise. I love it.
19. Yellow is my favorite color.
20. I decided to not play volleyball next year. And I'm finally regaining my life.
21. Quotes decorate my wall and my planner. They inspire me.
22. Understanding the medical terminology in Grey's Anatomy and House makes me happy.
23. After I turn 21 (and you are all 21) we are all going to a karaoke bar for singing and drinks. You will come.
24. Getting B's in nursing classes is truly a great thing.
25. Peppermint is gross. It's all about wintergreen.

Girl I will cut you...
Edit:
This may make me sound stupid but here it goes. I had no idea we were still legitimately searching for bin Laden. But apparently, we are. Wow. I don't know how accurate their predictions actually are but their way of thinking is neat. I never would have thought of half this stuff. Analyzing patterns of nighttime electricity usage... that's pretty cool.
This is still one of the greatest videos on youtube. Nintendo 64 remix is pretty awesome too.
Any other good ones out there?

Hey Stephen
AN EDIT ON MY EDIT:
AHHH!!!! I didn't fail my exam after all!!!!!!!
I went to go and look at my failing grade again and saw an announcement that was made for my class. So I looked at it and it said "Exam grades are now posted. Sorry to those who saw their grade when it wasn't corrected." So of course I'm getting a little excited now. Maybe I didn't do so bad. But I didn't want to get my hopes up too much just in case nothing had changed.
BUT IT HAD!!! MY GRADE WENT FROM A 40% TO AN 80%
I still want to get higher than an 80%... but it sure beats the heck out of a 40%.
------
EDIT:
I just got my lowest exam grade ever. Frick.
------
It's about 12:30a right now and I'm currently on a study break. I have my first pharmacology test tomorrow morning at 07:30a. Peeeerrrfect. I'm so not ready. I've never EVER felt this way about a test. Like there is so much freaking information and I have no idea how to even begin to organize it and put it down into flashcards or notes or ANYTHING. I even tried to start studying earlier this week... but it made me so nervous that I stopped and instead put it off until the last possible time, which is right now!
Why does this have to happen now?
But there are still some positives:
1. I'm looking forward to this movie coming out.
2. I'm coming home tomorrow! If traffic allows I should be home before 5pm. If I skip my nutrition class I could be home by one. Hmmmm...

PELICAN!
Ah... well my first week of school is over and let me just say it was a good week. AND an even better weekend! Seriously, if this next semester is anywhere near as fun as this past weekend then it's going to be an AWESOME semester. And it will be that awesome.
One of the reasons why this weekend was so great was because of this video:
It is GREATNESS!!
But in all seriousness... a couple of girls who used to go to Loma came and visited for the weekend. You would think that it would be weird since we haven't seen these girls since May. But it wasn't weird at all! It was like they never left... how does that happen? When we all come home for the summer/winter break and hang out it ALSO feels like nothing has changed. We're all different, we've all matured (most of us), and yet we can still hang out and have a blast. Why is that?

Don't Be Vague
Bringing in the new year always make me think about what I'd like to do differently. You know, the whole "New Year's Resolutions" thing is very catchy. Doesn't it feel good sometimes to say everything you want to do differently and think you'll do it differently. Now having said that... I don't believe in setting resolutions. Not anymore. But I don't really have a problem with those who make them. I used to make them up every year. My best friend from 5th grade and I used to bury them every year in my front yard and then dig them up on New Year's Eve. Of course we hadn't made any of them come true.
So my question is... can we ever really change? Did you know that every year the top four new year's resolutions are the same? They have been for years. This information is coming from my pastor by the way. I can't remember exactly how many years but for at least three years the top goals have been to 1. Slim down 2. Stop smoking 3. Reduce debt. The order may vary from year to year but they are always up there. Why? You could take one route (called the Negative Route) and say it's because people simply cannot change without divine intervention or some sort of life-altering wake up call. Year after year after year these resolutions are set only to have them reappear each year!
But here's the thing. (This thing = positive route!) Even though I know that millions of resolutions will be broken this year I still believe that people CAN change! And I'm not even talking about exercising, eating healthier, stop smoking, etc. Yes those things matter because those things help you to live a longer, healthier life and BONUS you are taking care of your body (your temple) the way you should. People CAN change. The human mind is an amazing thing, and with encouragement from friends (and some of your own willpower and lots of sticky notes) you can do what you set your mind to do. Whatever it may be. Read your Bible more often (we can all do that one), walk the dog more (poor Rover is just begging for more time to sniff the world), or maybe to spend a couple minutes a day sitting in the sunshine (if there is any).
People's character... that may not be so easy. All of the duel bags in the world (see The Doghouse if you don't understand that, but only if you want to) will probably stay duel bags. But that's another question I guess.

The Baby 8's
EDIT: Watch Ninja Cat! Hopefully that's the right link.
Taylor found my "Baby's First Calendar" when she was looking at our old scrapbooks today. Yes, I got a lot of "You were such a cute baby!... What happened?" from her. Really? Did ya need to ask? Anyways I read through it and I learned that in twenty years some things have changed... and some haven't.
1) "She eats her veggies wonderfully!" NOT ANYMORE! Whoops. Maybe veggies just tasted better all mushed up and shoved in a jar.
2) "She finally found her thumb- but no biggie! She'd rather chew/suck on her entire fist." Well guys, I have this habit that I haven't told anyone about... yet.
3) "She's a spastic little one!" CHECK! I think that still applies.
4) "Sleeps very well- never wakes up in the middle of the night. Falls to sleep very easily- it takes 2 seconds and she's out." Check again! How many people's couches have I fallen asleep on?
5) "We love you Boobee!" If you ever call me this I will take you out, Jack Bauer style.
6) "She eats like a pig. We call her piglet." Ah, some things never change.
7) "She laughs a lot and loves to shriek when she's happy! She makes people laugh with her shrieks! She's so loud!" Oh crap... do I still shriek?!
8) "She is just a dance machine. She watches MTV and dances to all the music. She's got rhythm and soul." My dance moves are still pretty off da hook dawg. But I've had 20 years of practice so don't give up yet!

BAHAHAHAHAHA
This has to be one of the GREATEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN! CLICK THIS to see!!! Seriously. I should be studying for my nursing final and microbiology final right now but I just can't. I can't stop watching!!!
She has a bunch of different sons too. Another favorite of mine is the katy perry song, hot n cold or rihanna's disturbia. So awesome.
So I come home on Wednesday afternoon... only two days away! It has been an interesting first semester this year. I've gone through the rainbow of emotions, but honestly a lot of the time I felt pretty alone. I didn't get to hang out with anyone ever because volleyball and school took up all of my time. Lucky for me, now vball is over and I'm finally getting to catch up on "hanging out" time and it's freaking cool. That's all. I miss you all and I can't wait to see everyone!!
It is so stormy at Loma that it sounds like the windows in the lounge are going to shatter from the force of the wind crashing into them. <3

Christmas Caroling
Hahahaha... there is a fourth grade boy who is already offering advice on how to talk to girls. I can see this guy becoming a total "playa" when he gets older.
See the article HERE.
Allyse told me about this commercial earlier and I had to show you all. It's soo funny... but not at the same time. See what I mean.
:) Eight more days until I come home!!!

Christmastime in Iowa
Long story short: I went to Iowa for the national championship and we lost in the quarterfinals.
Long story NOT short:
I left from school at 9am Saturday morning and got to Iowa later on Saturday. Sunday and Monday were fun. On Sunday we held a volleyball clinic on three of the practice courts at the events center where we played. It was for 3rd-5th graders and it was so much fun! Most of the girls were really cute but some just didn't want to be there. One girl even yelled at Mel, it was super funny. Then on Monday we went to Hunt Elementary School and put on an assembly for the ENTIRE school. Luckily it was a pretty small school but there were still a lot of kids to entertain for at least a half-hour. We talked about staying healthy, working hard in school, and being a good teammate! They all had little actions that went with them. Staying healthy was flexing, working hard in school was tapping your head like you were thinking hard, and being a good teammate was turning to the person next to you and giving them a high-five!

Tuesday we began pool play. Tuesday we played Morningside. They are the hosting team and they are from Iowa. They were ranked ahead of us so no one expected us to win. But we won! It was a great game. Did I mention that one of our girls had gotten the 24 hour stomach flu and couldn't play?

Wednesday was the second day of pool play. Sadly, we lost to Fresno Pacific University. They are reigning national champs AND they are undefeated. Their record is something like 40-0. But we did win one game out of four against them, which is awesome because they normally beat everyone in three easy games. But seriously, all of the scores were close. I still think we could have beaten them. Oh, and did I mention that one of our starting outside hitters had the 24 hour stomach flu and couldn't play? Instead one of the backrow specialists (a freshman) played outside hitter. She hasn't played outside hitter this entire year.

Thursday was the last pool play game of the tournament. We played Black Hills State University and beat them in five. It was a LONG and tiring game. I felt like my legs were about to fall off. Oh, and two of our girls (our other senior outside hitter and main setter) were recovering from a weaker version of the stomach flu. Gross!

Friday started early and it was now SINGLE ELIMINATION BABY! The first game was against Vanguard University. Sorry if you ever read this Shiloh but we beat them down! Oh snap! And now our other setter and our main right side hitter were suffering from the stomach flu. When they rotated off the court they were throwing up on the sidelines. Again, ugh.

Much later that day (at 8:15pm to be exact) the second game of the day started. This was the quarterfinals! We played Concordia... and lost in three. Dang. Our setter and right side hitter were still throwing up on the sidelines. And that was the end of the season. And guess where the team finished? Tied for 5th in the NATION in the NAIA. Not too shabby.
Pictures aren't up on the website yet. Too bad.
What comes next you ask? One more week of school, two finals, and then it's CHRISTMAS BREAK TIME!!!! Am I excited? You better believe it.

Oh SNAP!
Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone!! I hope you all had a good time gathering with family and/or friends and eating good food (and being thankful for all your blessings!).
I wish I could do a long update now, but I still have to pack. Tomorrow morning I leave for Nationals with the v-ball team. We're going to **drumroll please** Sioux City, Iowa. Oh boy. It's literally freezing there. There's a 30% chance that it will snow the second day we are there. COOL! I'm excited, but at the same time I have to miss a week of school AND potentially freeze my booty off.
Here's an email that my Grams sent me awhile ago. Allyse thought it was pretty funny too.
At Penn State University, there were four sophomores taking chemistry and all of them had an "A" so far. These four friends were so confident that, the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have a big party. They had a great time but, after all the hearty partying; they slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Penn State until early Monday morning.
Rather than taking the final then, they decided that after the final they would explain to their professor why they missed it. They said that they visited friends but on the way back they had a flat tire. As a result, they missed the final. The professor agreed they could make up the final the next day. The guys were excited and relieved. They studied that night for the exam.
The next day the professor placed them in separate rooms and gave them a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem worth 5 points. Cool, they thought! Each one in separate rooms, thinking this was going to be easy... Then they turned the page. On the second page was written... For 95 points: Which tire?

Respect. That's what it's all about.
It is 12:35am here in the Land of Loma and there is currently a girl on my hall ranting on the phone to her mom about a presidential candidate. I even heard the words "I really should be president." Oh, should you? Really? Somehow I think that if you really were president you would do a far crappier job than any of the candidates that entered this election. Do you seriously not realize how hard being the president has to be? You may not like whoever wins the election, but have some respect. FOR EVERYONE.

Just Dance
Wow, I was getting dangerously close to becoming a dead friend! But, in true Jack Bauer style, I will rescue my blog from the brink of death!
Times here at Loma have been crazy my friends! I wish I could say it has been a social crazy, like me meeting a ton of new people and hanging out with them a lot and have a crazy time in general but of course that isn't the type of crazy I mean. I'm talking about school and volleyball being crazy of course! Wow, do I sound like a broken record or what? I feel like that is always what I'm saying.
So I went to the hospital for the first time on Thursday and it was really cool. The nurses and CNA's are all nice and want to help you learn. My patient was a nice Mexican lady and she just had major surgery so her incision dressing looked really awesome.
On Wednesday night I go to the hospital to pick out my patient for the next day. Once I find a good patient I ask for their permission to care for them the next day and then I have to write down a crapload of information about them (e.g. meds, prior medical/surgical history, diagnosis, etc.) and then go home and do my write-up which is about 10-12 pages. Oh yeah. So here's how the night went. Got to the hospital at 4:30, left the hospital at 6:30, got home at 7 and started the write-up at 8, went to bed at 2:00am, and then got up to go to the hospital at 4:30am! And I get to do it again this week!!!
I know you are all probably tired of hearing all of this political crap that is going around. "Palin says she can see Russia from her house. People are only voting for Obama because he's black. McCain looks creepy when he smiles...." yadda yadda yadda. A little note before I give you this link... Of course I don't think all of Obama fans are like the ones you will hear here. Allyse's mom sent her this, she shared it with me, and I'd like to share it with you. It's a snippet from Howard Stern's radio show.

Nazbo Rap II
Seriously, I don't know what is up with all of this video posting I'm doing but perhaps this will be the last one for awhile. Maybe.
So there was some major hate-age on the last Nazbo Rap (by Kevin of course...) BUT this one is BOMB.COM! And I actually know people in this video, so yay!
So, next week I am actually going to a skilled nursing home, and then after that the actual hospital! It's so scary! We are learning so much crap now and I don't think I can fit it all in my brain. I know the first couple of times going I am going to forget a lot. As long as I don't screw up any meds it'll be fine.
Quote of the Post:
There's a point in your life when you get tired of fixing everything and trying to make everyone happy. When you finally decide to quit, it's NOT giving up. It's realizing you don't need certain people and the bullcrap they bring into your life.
I've mostly applied this to my vball coach, but I'm sure it works in other situations as well. :)

SNL
Okay, I have to admit that sometimes SNL is just stupid but the skit below (feat. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler as Hilary Clinton) is just funny.
EDIT: I don't like OR dislike Palin simply because I don't know much about her yet. This is solely entertainment.
On Sunday I went to Fashion Valley to return some stuff and I ended up wandering around the (outdoor) mall. My Mom called me when I was in Old Navy and we talked about my uncomfortable, slightly scary church experience. Yes, that is possible. Ask me if you want to know more. But anyways, apparently there is a mom at the twin's school who wants to set me up with a guy she knows. The only problem? He's 28. To which my mom told me, "Yeah but whenever I think about you in love in college I always picture you falling in love with someone a little older, like one of your professors." Wow. Can you say awkward?
Anyways, a lot has been going on lately, but I just want to say that I can feel God moving on campus and definitely in my life. More info to come.
We rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

100th Post!
First let me say that... this is my 100th post! Yay!
In chapel on Wednesday we watched the Nazbo Rap II and I wanted to show it to you guys but I figured you should all see the first one before you see the second one... so here it is!
Each week a girl on the volleyball team has devotionals for that week and we have to choose a word for the week. I had devos this week and my word was courage and this was my quote for today:
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."

Dang, that was a freaking long day. I'm just glad it's over!
Lately Allyse and I (mostly myself) have been re-watching a lot of Grey's Anatomy. Of course it's really good. But it's also interesting to re-watch certain episodes and see how my feelings have changed. Or not changed, because Dr. McDreamy is still pretty freaking McDreamy after all.
I hope you are all having an excellent week!
“Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
This is definitely part of my prayers now.

FIT Course
This past week has been on crazy experience. This training camp (and it's not over) has been the most physically and emotionally draining camp I have ever experienced. Seriously. Every day I woke up (at 5:20am, by the way) and wondered how I would ever get through the day. My Bible has been opened a lot. And my teammates are AMAZING! We have all agreed that it has definitely been a team effort. So anyways, our coach shared a song with us today and said that this song is her "team song" for us. The lyrics really hit me hard so I just wanted to share the song with you.
School's starting again soon. Yay?
Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Sway - Michael Buble
On my way into the grocery store the other day, I lost my flip-flop to a rouge piece of ABC gum in the middle of the street. My right flip-flop was literally off my foot. Then I turned around to retrieve the missing flop and (after 3 attempts) managed to move it. I swear that piece of gum was a monster! I tried using my other flop to disengage the gum from my shoe but then that shoe got stuck. Of course I was cracking up the entire time, but at the same time it was pretty gross.
My mom, Luke, Livi, and I went to the OC fair. I got a couple cute pictures from it. :)

In the past couple of days I have watched too many movies. They include No Reservations, Charlie Bartlett, Steel Magnolias, Austin Powers, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and High School Musical 2. Ugh. No Reservations and Charlie Bartlett were definitely worth watching again. Oh, and I also saw The Dark Knight. Yes, it was very good.
AND in other news... I'll be back at Loma in 2 weeks for training camp. Oh boy.

A Post About the Past 5 Days
Sorry, this is a long post. But a great one!
WELL, now that my surgery is over and my nose splints have been removed (PRAISE the Lord!) I feel qualified to tell you all about it.
We arrived at the hospital at 7:10am, with my surgery scheduled for 8:30am. First we registered and then we were told to go to the same day surgery wing of the hospital. After a short walk we found ourselves there and a nurse named Maureen greeted us. She was such a nice lady, and when I told her I was a nursing student she just had to tell all the other nurses and s
ome of them stopped by to talk to me about it. One nurse, named Connie, was hysterical. She leaned real close to me and told me it was really important to work at a hospital that has a good retirement plan. Anyways, she gave me a gown to put on (ONLY the gown) which I was a bit nervous about. But luckily, what you see on tv/movies isn't true. The gowns completely cover your rear end; it was actually pretty sweet looking. Then they started a saline IV (to keep the vein open) along with an anti-infection medication.

After that my mom sat in her chair and I sat in my bed and we talked and watched the happenings in the same day surgery place. There was an old woman in there who I think was with her kids because she kept saying things like, "Why did you do this to me?" and, "I'm never getting in your car again." Needless to say, she wasn't happy... but she certainly had my mom, me, and some of the other nurses cracking up. The only sad/scary part was when there was a code blue in the waiting room/lobby of the hospital. Code blue, as you probably know, means a major cardio or respiratory arrest. But did you know that most of the arrests for children are respiratory and for adults most arrests are cardio? I learned that in my CPR class. :) So if a child collapses in front of you, do five cycles of CPR BEFORE you call for an ambulance or a defibrillator for their heart. For an adult, only do one cycle before calling. Alright, go out and SAVE SOME LIVES!
After that my glasses were taken away from me and I was taken away from my mother and into the holding room before surgery. Everything was fuzzy; my Doctor (Micheal Kim) came to talk to me... and I'm pretty sure it was him. It sounded like him. Is it just me or do a lot of doctors sound good looking? Some of them came to talk to me. They were probably having fun making faces at me or something because I couldn't see their faces. Before I was wheeled into surgery the anesthesiologist came and talked to me and pushed something clear into my IV. It looked pretty sweet. He told me that I probably wouldn't remember anything after that point. The only scrap of memory I have is being wheeled towards the operating room and him asking me what nursing school I was in. I tried to answer, but it must have sounded something like, "Poin-loa-na..." and after that I have noothinngg.
After I woke up back in the same day surgery place I was pretty drugged up and my head still freaking hurt. My mom went to the bathroom and said there was a good-looking kid next to me, and that he was going to Harvard. Clearly, she had been eavesdropping while I had been unconscious. The nurses helped him to the restroom (like they did for me) but UNLIKE me... the hospital gown had opened in the back and you could see his booty. Hahahaha, my mom thought that was the funniest thing ever but I was too out of it to even open my eyes. I got dressed in a chair and then was wheeled outside where my mom picked me up. Riding in a wheelchair was pretty cool, except for the huge piece of gauze taped under my nose.
Don't judge. I was too medicated to care about a picture.
So the rest of the weekend was spent alternating between different beds and couches at my aunt's house, my house, and in the condo in Palm Springs. I kept taking my drugs so I could doze off, but nothing made the crazy headache and the pressure in my nose go away. I still have some left over painkills (a mixture of acetametaphin and some narcotic) if anyone is interested in buying. :)
Today at 8am was my appointment to have those freaking nose splints taken OUT! I was having crazy dreams about ripping them out (or were those fantasies...) so it was an exciting trip to the doctors office. Once in the patient's chair, Dr. Kim cut and pulled out the stitch that held the splints in place and that was pretty painful. I even teared up some. He wanted to make sure that I had eaten breakfast because apparently some patients of his have almost fainted at the relief/weird feeling that they experienced as he pulled out the splint. I thought he was exaggerating BUT... sorry if this sounds gross... it was one of the weirdest feelings I have ever felt. It felt like I was giving birth through my nostril. Both nostrils! But the splints were huge; at least TWICE the size of my nose.
I asked the Doc if I could take a picture of them and he seemed a little surprised. Apparently I'm the first one to ask that. Wouldn't you want to see what was up your nose?! He didn't even show it to me after he pulled it out! He decided to give them to me. Yay.
I was going to clean them up and put the in a little plastic baggie. I could have even carried them with me. What a great pickup line! See a cute guy in the mall, walk over to him, and say, "So, do you wanna see something cool?"
Maybe not. Maybe I'll just throw them away.

And now I have a saline spray thing to do morning and night. Once my passageways clear up I should be able to spray it in one nostril and have it come out the other. I'm charging admission when that happens.

It's a No Shower Time
Well, the weather has finally started to cool down just a bit. Now that I've said that I'm sure it will skyrocket once again. I'm really sorry if that happens.
Today I was supposed to work from 12-5pm but it was so slow that Mallorie let me go for the day at 3pm. After eating some free food :) I decided not to go to my car but to instead walk across the street to the beach. There was a really nice grassy area with some palm trees scattered around right before a parking lot and the beach. I decided to sit/lean against a palm tree and just take some time to think/relax/refocus.
It was such a nice time of day. The sun wasn't trying to burn me alive and the ocean breeze was perfect. It was time to mentally sort some stuff out.
Thanks to everyone who came tonight! It was so much fun!!!!!! It's almost 2 am and of course now my mind remembers that I have a pre-op appointment early tomorrow morning. Yay.
And my Mom just made me try oatmeal for the first time and it's yummy. Any special ways you like to eat it?

Yay.
