Island in the Sun

It is now officially spring break for all the cool kids at Loma! I've been home since Wednesday night, so it's old news to me. :)
But the reason why I went on break early was because I had an appointment with Dr. Kim, an ear, nose, and throat doctor. I had an appointment for 9:45am and I ended up actually seeing the Doc at 10:55am. What the freak?! It's a little something called overbooking... DON'T do it! But it wasn't really that bad. I got to fill out all those forms that my mom used to fill out, and my mom and I got to (quietly) make fun of some of the crazies in there. It was pretty darn entertaining. Sadly, there is actually something wrong with me. I have what is called an internal nasal collapse, which is why it can be hard for me to breathe during practice, why I get light-headed sometimes, etc. The really crappy thing is that there is really nothing-- not even surgery-- that can be done to fix it. It's just how I was born. So the Doc said maybe nasal spray would help a little bit, told me to stay on my Claritin, and said to use those breathe-right strips when I work out. Yep. I'm supposed to wear this when I work out. That's gotta be bad for my self-esteem somehow. Of course I had to try some of those bad boys on... so I'm wearing one now. I look ridiculous but it really does help. Anybody wanna decorate some for me to wear? ;)

But in better news......... I'm flying to Maui at 9am on Saturday! REALLY SOON! And that means I get to try and beat my Dad at surfing. It's gonna happen this time. Fo' reals yo! G'YEAH! And I got my bangs cut today for free. It's embarrassing to admit but... I had a mini photo shoot. So here is a picture! I can't put the actual picture up or else I'll feel like a bigger camera whore. Ugh.

Happy early birthday Rebekah!!!!!! :)

I think we're going somewhere.
We're on to something good here.
Out of mind, out of state.
Trying to keep my head on straight.
I think we're going somewhere.
We're on to something good here.
There's only one thing left to do.
Drop all I have and go with you.

Picture To Burn

Last night I went to my friend Isann's concert. She performed a bunch of praise songs she had written. It was amazing. Seriously. I've been trying to figure out how to put one of her songs in my post but I haven't yet. Maybe for my next song. For now you'll just have to deal with a Taylor Swift song as my title. It's pretty bomb.

But not as bomb as Isann!

So this post is what I would call a post of procrastination. I don't want to study for my large human development test tomorrow. OR my practical-- covering arteries, veins, and the human heart-- that will be on Tuesday. Luckily I am going HOME on Thursday! Yay!!! It's almost spring break!!!

Have a great week y'all! Be safe and have fun!

Feel It Coming

What I am about to say is in no way, shape, or form a joke. This morning I woke to find all of our doors tied together with fishing line. I really wish I had gotten a picture of it. Luckily the line is stretchy so Allyse just opened the door a little farther so she could reach through and cut it so we could open our door all the way. The funnest part was ducking underneath it all on the way to the bathroom. There's no way I was going to cut that work of art! I had to give some of the others a chance to enjoy. As of right now our hall still doesn't know who did it. I think it was Mary; she lives about five doors down. It's the kind of thing she would do.
So that's today's story. Yesterday night Allyse had a volleyball game so of course I was there watching along with Mary, Sarah, Peter, Janae, Amy, Patrick, and Kelsey. We had fun even though Loma lost. :(
And after that a ton of us went to see Vantage Point. When I say a ton... I really mean a ton. Thirteen people crammed into two cars. That was cozy. If you are thinking about seeing Vantage Point, you should. It was really good. There was a pretty intense car chase and Dennis Quaid is-- as always-- amazing. But you know, you could always see 27 Dresses. That was good too. :)
And now I am off to study or clean my room. Or watch some Grey's Anatomy...

It’s so easy to complain
But it’ll make you insane
That same routine
The impulse to be mean
But the grass is oh so green
After winter rain

Have an awesome weekend!

Fill Me In

What the freak?! A couple of posts ago I believe I mentioned going to the library to study for anatomy and physiology for a good 4-5 hours. Studying should logically result in a better grade on the next test right? WRONG. I just got my second test back and found that I got the same grade (80%) on both freaking tests. So I have a choice here. I could skim my notes for about 10 minutes or I could study for hours and still receive the same grade. What to do, what to do...

Something Good

Don't you just love short weeks?? Mmmmm... I'm soaking in the AWESOME smell that is the four-day-week. Don't question it-- just let it be. :)
I guess in every short week there has to be at least one bad thing that happens right? Well my bad encounter was around 8:45am Tuesday morning. What terrible thing hit me that early? It was a smell, but it definitely wasn't the excellent aroma I was just talking about. No, it was the terrible smell of dead cats that we have been dissecting for-- no joke-- almost two entire semesters. Gross. Luckily my gag reflex is small. Luckily my partner's lab reflex is small. I almost wish that the smell of fermaldehyde was deadly because then they would be forced to come up with an ingenious way to preserve cats without having them smell like death warmed up. That would be lovely.
So hopefully that was the low point of the week. Everything else went great today. I even opened up a large package of mint M&M's. That just makes this week so much better.

And the writer's strike is over! Yay! I'm definitely hoping-- although it is almost impossible-- that there will be just a few more Grey's episodes. Yeeeaah!

Have a fantastic week!

Everyday

Doesn't it feel awesome to be home? You can probably guess that I'm saying that because I'm at home. I will always love being at home, even though being at Loma is also awesome. Wherever I am, I miss where I'm not. Typical.
Anyways... on to the fun activities of home! Tay and me are currently playing High School Musical 1&2 Sing-A-Long. Oh yeah. We are pretty much rocking it, although sometimes we end up singing the guy part. Ooops. So after this maybe we will start setting up Rock Band. Oh you know it's going to be a party over here. Right now we are trying to unlock Everyday, which is a pretty awesome song. :)
So, S.A.D. was actually a pretty good day. I have no class on Thursday so I met with the new volleyball coach at noon and then had practice at 2pm. It was an intense practice, but it was so much fun! We are going to be great this year. Our new coach is all about repetition, hard work, and competition all while having a good attitude and playing to the best of the abilities that God gave us. So we have an exciting year ahead of us! After practice a bunch of us went to the caf for dinner like we always do... but then I went to the library. That is definitely not normal activity for me. I have never been to the library to study. I was there for a good 5 hours studying for anatomy; that's probably longer than I've studied this whole year combined. That's pretty sad. So after all of that crap I went out for coffee at this really cute place called the Living Room. It was so cute! I said my mom would have loved it. It's a little 2-story house that was converted into a coffee shop so there are couches, tables, and chairs all over both floors. After that it was around 12:30 so I decided to start on my essay that was due and to study for another hour. I ended up going to bed at 3am.
Friday I took my anatomy test at 8:30am, did some peer-editing in my writing class, and skipped my last lecture so I could go home at 1:25pm! Sweetness. The train ride home was so uneventful; the only thing worth mentioning was that the guy who sat next to me wore waaaay too much cologne.
And that is all she wrote. Sorry it's so discombobulated (sp?).I hope the last two days of your 3-day weekend are awesome! Stay safe!

Baby, It's a Fact

EDIT
I thought this was hysterical. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not... but it's worth a read.
---------

This week has already been so busy! Monday was the worst. I had class from 8:30-2:20pm continuously, then from 2:30-3:30pm I observed at the ECLC (Early Childhood Learning Center), and then at 3:45 I went to a meeting with the volleyball team to meet our new coach. Yep, we finally got a new coach after all of the crazy drama of firing our old one. What's my impression of her you ask? I'll get to that. :) After that was over (around 4:30pm) I went back to my dorm room for 10 minutes and then went to a pre-nursing dinner from 5-6:50ish. The nursing dinner was so awesome! We got free food (pizza, drinks, and some cookies) and then we rotated around in four different stations. We used a miniature ultrasound machine at one station and at another station we learned how to take the blood pressure of a patient using these really cool manikins (yep, you can actually spell it like that). We put the cuff on the "patient's" arm and then used the stethoscope, etc to determine the blood pressure. The cool thing was that the nurses could change the blood pressure of the manikin with a push of a button. Apparently you can also change the way their heart sounds and a bunch of other stuff so the nurses can practice with them and have new situations each time. I think they can even say a few things. Creepy!

On to the new volleyball coach. She looks a bit like Mandy Moore, a woman at my church, and my older sister Nicole all rolled into one. She is very bold, and she says what she means. Yesterday we had our first practice with her but she didn't really say a lot. We mainly played against each other (2-on-2, 4-on-4, etc) so she could see how we played. I felt like a fish in a tank. Just being watched. I did pretty good though so I wasn't really thinking about her. AND I haven't actually talked to her one-on-one. That's tomorrow at noon. O.O eeeeeee......

Anyways, this week is going well. I just recently discovered this song (the title of the post) by Hellogoodbye one day when Allyse randomly played it. It's a good one. As is Curbside Prophet by Jason Mraz. And Sunday Morning by Maroon 5. Yesterday wasn't super exciting. I left my night Old Testament class an hour early because I thought I was going to be sick. But Peter, Patrick, and Sarah came over and it was a ton of fun, even though I did get owned in every card game known to man/woman. Ouch. Tomorrow should be a lot of fun though. My hall is going to go to Yogurt Express (THE BEST YOGURT PLACE EVER) for dessert to celebrate S.A.D! :)

HAVE FUN EVERYONE!

Open Doors

I have finally had the college experience that every college student should experience. Yes. At 8:32am on Friday, February 8, 2008 my anatomy lecture was canceled. Let me tell you, I yelled "WOOT!" at least 3 times in my head. It was a great feeling and now I am here writing this post after I looked up my exam schedule so I could write it on my amazing Grey's calendar. So here's the final list:
May 5th
-A&P @ 8am
May 6th
-Old Testament @ 6pm
May 7th
-Composition @ 10:30 am
May 8th
-None
May 9th
-Human Dev. @ 10:30am
-Sociology @ 1pm

Oh boy. Just looking at my schedule makes me amazed. This year has gone by so fast. There have been so many ups and downs. Right now would have to be an UP though! :) And apparently today is Pastor's Day here at Loma. I'm expecting to see a bunch of pastors filling up the Brown chapel today.
More coming about Foreman and the AMAZING shooting star Amy and I witnessed.

You've been watching me
Like the moon watches the sky
Pushing me to find
You open doors, you open doors
It's hard to make believe
When the sun slips out of view
And I don't care what they say
I'm in love with you, so in love with you

There's a Calm I Can't Explain

At the risk of becoming a dead friend (Jaws music plays) I am finally posting again. I really do apologize about my lack of posting. I know how disappointing it is to check someone's blog only to have it be the same freaking post from ages ago. It's a terrible feeling.
So tonight was open dorm! Most of you are probably laughing. Please do. Personally I find the rules of open dorm to be hysterical. And you do want to hear them.
1. Keep the door open at all times.
2. The overhead light must be on at all times unless watching a movie, then a small lamp (that can still illuminate all against-the-covenant-actions) will suffice.
3. Both feet must be on the ground at all times.
Pretty sure there are more but I can't think of them right now. Laughing at these rules is fine. I laugh, but I really like this "open dorm" thing we have. Well, I like the fact that there are only certain times when guys can be in our hall.
There are multiple reasons why it is such a good thing! The first is that I don't have to worry about running into some poor guy when I'm going to the shower with only my towel and flip-flops on. It's uncomfortable; trust me it happened one time when I didn't know it was open dorm. I promise I really didn't. I also don't have to worry about other clothing issues, etc because I know that it's not important in a dorm full of girls. My room doesn't have to be clean all the time. Period. And the last reason I'm going to mention involves room wars. Allyse and I were in a room war not too long ago. Luckily, only Allyse was really involved in it; meaning she locked two guys out of their room (with help from Kelsey), "destroyed" their room in a creative way, and left. In return she had her closet locked shut. And Kelsey had her closet locked shut with her comforter inside. :) Good times, good times.
Anyways, tonight was open dorm for my hall. Good old Klassen hall. It's the best hall in case you were wondering. Some people came over and we (me, Allyse, Peter, Andrew, Candyce, Nick, and Sarah) watched a bit of a movie, then we got bored and played Apples to Apples. I mostly lost... but I won the last game. Which, as we all know, is the only one that counts!
